Nidd Gorge
This past weekend, we had a very wet walk alongside the River Nidd. Through the woodland, we were slightly sheltered from the rain but were glad of a shorter route. In the drier weather, I can imagine people swimming in the river and having picnics in the sun. It was a very accessible walk with only short stretches of uphill terrain. The woodland was beautiful, and walking alongside the water was lovely too.
Parking: There was a small and free car park (Nidd Gorge car park) which was perfectly situated at the start of the walk, allowing for a circular route.
Length: Our route totalled 3.05km, taking under an hour.
Food: Close to Knaresborough, there are multiple cafe options nearby.
Drive: The drive from Leeds is less than an hour and very easy.
Route: The route was very clear and easy to follow. We used the ‘Wild Swimming Walks-Yorkshire’ book, which had this route as walk number 13 (p.111).
Accessibility: We did this walk with my grandma and found that it was accessible. There were some uphill sections, but the clear and well-trodden path helped a lot.
Landmarks: The river was lovely to walk next to. I am always a fan of a woodland walk, so this was great for me!
I look forward to doing this route again, maybe extending it to ending up in Knaresborough when the weather allows! Thank you for reading :)
